From humble beginnings with nine faithful members worshiping in a small Cleghorn Street meeting hall, 2nd Baptist Church has grown into a vibrant community of faith, deeply committed to God’s Word and spiritual mission.
The church’s journey began under different names—first Green Street Baptist, then Eastside Baptist—establishing its first Green Street facility in 1947. This early site included a parsonage and the acquisition of the House of Dreams. In 1952, the congregation officially became 2nd Baptist Church.
Steady growth marked the church’s development: an educational building arose in 1960, a new worship center in 1974, and the Family Life Center in 2005, complemented by strategic property acquisitions that expanded the church’s physical presence.
Yet 2nd Baptist’s true strength lies not in buildings, but in its people—dedicated pastors and members who have passionately pursued evangelism and discipleship. Through the Southern Baptist Convention’s Cooperative Program, the church’s impact extends far beyond its local community, reaching around the world.
Worship remains the heartbeat of the congregation, with multiple services now accommodating a growing community of believers. As 2nd Baptist celebrates 100 years of God’s faithfulness in 2025, the church remains committed to praying, giving, and sharing Christ’s hope until His return.
